Pallone Praises Biden Administration's New Lightbulb Efficiency Standards

Press Release

Date: April 26, 2022
Issues: Energy

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today after the Department of Energy (DOE) announced new energy efficiency standards for lightbulbs:

"Today's new lightbulb efficiency standards will save Americans a combined $3 billion on their energy bills and curb carbon pollution by 222 million metric tons over the next 30 years. This is real, meaningful action to slash families' electric bills and combat the growing climate crisis. I applaud the Biden Administration for reversing Trump's senseless rollback of these lightbulb standards -- particularly at a time when Americans need relief from rising energy prices. These new lightbulb standards are a true win-win and I'm committed to working with DOE to ensure American consumers have the best, most cost-effective products available."

Today's announcement is a reversal of the Trump Administration's efforts to weaken lightbulb efficiency standards and is the result of a nearly year-long rulemaking process at DOE.
